Plenty Big Enough

This morning I finished sewing the 16 Patch Shirt Plaid blocks together.  If I had any thoughts of making it a little bigger, they were gone when I got done.  I turned a few of the blocks to add interest as I have seen done by others.  That also satisfy my need to use my shirt plaids for awhile.

I think it will be fun to quilt in an all over pattern.  It is 60 by 72" so will make a good lap quilt.

Summer is making a comeback and I need to go outside and spray weeds and get rid of those pesky trees that want to grow in the flower beds.  I think our squirrels are getting a little forgetful about where they store their pecans.  Or maybe John got them before they ate lunch.

Memorial Day Weekend

Saturday and Sunday at the lake. Saturday it was in the low 70's and felt a little cool at the community cook out. Tracey, Molly and myself played Garden Scrabble (a game Tracey gave me for Mother's Day)which was fun.. Sunday was warmer and everyone got out on the water to enjoy the day. I enjoyed sitting on the deck reading.

Monday we had our Table of Grace meal at WUMC.  Lots of good help and lots of fun preparing the meal.

We served Chicken Salad, Pasta Salad, Fruit and Ice Cream with Strawberries and Chocolate Sauce for dessert.

We had a good attendance even though it was a holiday.
The best part was a surprise visit from Tawny, our first ministerial intern.  She did the devotional.  She has recently been commissioned and her husband Paul just finished his doctorate at NCSU. They will be moving back to Pennsylvania soon to begin the next chapter of their lives.

Quilty Days

Yesterday was sewing day at my house.  We had a lot of fun, and a wet garden tour(showers every day this week).  This was my show and tell from a pattern in a Kim Diehl book called "Simple Charm".  It is 45 x 54" and needs to have borders added.  I had all the nine patches and red squares already so I only had to cut the neutral rectangles and start sewing..

My work in progress is my shirt plaids 16 patch.  I finished sewing the 120 6" blocks and have been sewing them into four patch 12" blocks as I went along.  I sewed one row together early this morning.
This quilt will make a nice memory gift for one of the male family members as I added quite a few plaids from John's shirts too.

I finished planting the side porch pots.  I love the tall brown pot that M gave me for Mother's Day!

Today S, C and I are going to the NC Quilt Symposium in Fayetteville and Saturday is our Undercover Bee in the morning.

Then Memorial Day Party/Cookout  at the lake with the other families on the road.  Have to get back Sunday as we are serving our monthly Table of Grace meal on Monday evening.
Happy Memorial Day!

Rainy Days Sewing

The sun came out for about 5 minutes this morning so I had to dash out and look.  It seems like the Hostas grow right before your eyes,

They are just getting started.  They will be about 2 feet tall before they bloom.

The Siberian Iris are also opening.  They're not as pretty with their water drops.

The giant Solomon's Seal is my favorite this time of year.

This is my inside accomplishment during all the rainy hours.  I have put borders on the snowman wall hangings and maybe I'll try and quilt one today!
The weather man has promised us sun tomorrow!
