Taking a Snow/ Sew Day

Yesterday was supposed to be a trip down to Wilmington to sew with S & C but Mother Nature had other plans so after some errands (YES I went to the grocery store too like all good North Carolinians do when they hear that word) I went down the little house just as the first raindrops started.

I carried some items to store in TLH until the church has a yard sale Tuesday afternoon.  And all of a sudden I was loading this quilt on the Crown Jewel! 1 quilted a couple of rows too.

I finished quilting the Little H Quilt.  And I took time to load another quilt.
By then the snow was covering the lawn and looked so beautiful and peaceful coming down.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This was a surprise - last year's orchid has been sitting in the sink all winter and has new buds - very exciting for me as I have never had patience to wait for them. Trying not to over water - must remember 2 ice cubes per week.

Two little birds discussing the snow - 5PM

The Little House - 6PM

From the back porch  - the forsythia in the center was in full bloom  - we've had some very warm days this  February and lots of rain so many trees have blossomed out too.

Camellia under my kitchen window.

Well I'm just going to enjoy the beauty and let Mother Nature sort it out!

Amaryllis is just perfect.  I enjoy it everyday.

Valentine Blocks

Block of the month for Pine Tree - missed the meeting - got as far as Raleigh and there was a tremendous traffic jam on the inner belt line.  Heavy rain was predicted before lunch so I exited when  I finally could and came back home.  And right on the money - it rained cats and dogs at 11:25 AM.

 I  love how amaryllis grow.

My daughter gave me this in late January.

Boom! Bloom - Valentine's Day
Two more buds are behind the blossom.

The Snow Moon (February Full Moon) and Sewing Away

Snow Moon - as car was approaching

Maybe the bird was attracted to this cute little bird on the wreath.

Last week as I was finishing up some late afternoon/early evening sewing I noticed the moonrise  through the front windows. How could I not - it was beautiful.  We have been fortunate the past three months to have full moons on clear evenings.
I am always trying to take a great picture of the moonrise - especially when we were at the lake as the  moon arose over the lake.
So I grabbed my phone and headed for the front door.
"I'll take down the Christmas Wreath while I'm out there, too" - I told myself.
I turned the light on - too much light - let me get the wreath....
Whoosh!!!! A bird came flying out and the wreath went flying too.
So much for taking in wreaths at night.
After I had regained my composure - I did finally take a picture.

A backing for the snappy squares top

I made my first new project for 2020.  A patriotic double four patch - it will be donated to the VA Hospice Unit in Durham when competed.

The center was a little small so I added borders to make it 64 by 72"
I have lots of flannel fabric with patriotic theme so will use it for a backing.

Working on the binding for the Churn Dash too.

Snappy Squares and EnProvence

I bought this pattern when I took the Confetti Quilt Class from Augusta Cole in Goldsboro in 2013.
The Confetti quilt was hard to put together and I have wondered how this one would be as they are both diagonally set together.

But before one need  worry about that  - one  needs to make a half zillion of these pieced triangles (126 actually) which will use 1260 of ones 2"squares.

And the pair most of them to make blocks.
This has been my on again - off again sewing with C & S project for quite awhile.
Usually when I start a new quilt project - I note in my quilt workbook but this one was never added so I don't actually know when I started it .

Then I found my messy little progress note in the bottom of the box.
 Sometime before April 2015 apparently.

Last time I went to C's house I made lots of the blocks so I spent most of the day making the first half  of the quilt.

It is going together quite nicely.

The center connector row is ready to sew on but I will wait until I sew the other half so that I can press the seams in the right direction.
But I got distracted and finished the Little H Quilt backing---

ONE WEEK LATER

Sunday afternoon in-between Emily's birthday celebration and the Super Bowl, I sewed the top together.  I wasn't planning on borders but I was afraid of all those little triangles on the edges when it came time to quilt it.

Top measures about 81 by 92".

Also during my January TV time I sewed the binding and labeled my Enprovence quilt -
  November 2016 mystery quilt.
