Really, Truly finished

After 11 years it should be!  Even though I had to force myself to watch more episodes of Yellowstone - instead of going out in the rain to do errands yesterday, I finished the binding and it even has a label.

I have mixed feelings about Yellowstone ( I know - it's my choice that I'm watching it) The amount of violence bothers me  - and it is a tv drama - but I really enjoy the cowboy characters

I think I used five different fabrics on the back.  

I must have been in one of my use up what you have modes at the time. 

Need to switch back to sewing on my projects for our Community Day Craft sale at church.

I have about 40 more dog bandanas to finish up.  We have a work night scheduled this week, so it's sew, sew, sew for me!

Double Nine Patch Progress - Garden too

A lovely coolish (for NC) day was a good enough excuse for me to sew some more nine patches and add to my blocks.  So far I've managed to stay away from using my usual over indulgence of red  which I find very difficult.  I know I will have some but---- only as accents I hope. 

A check on Paul's tomato garden yielded some nice little cucumbers for a sandwich and...

a critter.  Just a baby but still ... Well it wouldn't be a tomato patch without them!

America The Beautiful Panel Quilts

When I was in Myrtle Beach in April I bought these panels.

I used these star blocks to enlarge this one and  added an additional border.

it is 52  by 70".  I plan it as a gift to a great nephew.

This one is bordered in 12" Cracker Blocks.  Thanks to my friend Carole who has been using this block to border panels for sometime and provided me with the pattern when at the beach.  She usually adds an additional border when she uses this pattern for Quilts of Valor.  This is 48 by 60"
I have made the backings for these quilts and they are ready for quilting.

 Leftover nine patches caught my eye and I decided to try a double nine patch.  I love the painterly look of this.  I want to make a scrap quilt that doesn't scream I'M RED!

Double Nine Patch Top Finished

I'm not sure when I sewed the center of this quilt top together but sometime last fall.  At that time, I couldn't decide what kind of border I wanted to put on it, pieced, applique or printed fabric. So I folded it up and put it aside for awhile.

I uncovered it again while I was tidying up in the sewing room.  I have been in the mood to finish things so I used a print that I had on hand for the outer border. I dug around and found an avocado green Kona solid for an inner border.   I only had 2 yards of the floral fabric so I used different portions for the sides and top and bottom borders. The top measures 75 x 90".

I hope I can find more of the same green for the binding.  I had just a half yard and a fat quarter to start with.  I thought I might like a one inch inner border so cut 1.5" strips.  They looked too wide so I cut more strips at one inch rather than try to cut the bigger ones down. I figured they wouldn't be straight if I did that.  They probably won't look super straight anyways with all the nine patches along the edges.

This is  about one fourth of the quilt.

Here is a closer view of the border fabric.  It is a Tulleries from Benartex.  I made a backing from six different cream and red prints that were on the shelf so it can go in the ready to layer stack.

Thursday

John and I went to Chapel Hill for lunch after his appointment Tuesday.  I stopped by Thimble Pleasures and the were out of the avocado Kona but have reordered it. Yea!
