Orca Bay - Hooray!

It was 2 years this month that Bonnie Hunter started the Orca Bay Mystery - and finally today I finished quilting it and made the binding for it.

I made a red binding for it but decided to go with black instead.  Just happy to have it finished.

Next up for quilting  - The Nine Patch Plaid Shirt Quilt that I finished here.  I loaded it on the Crown Jewel this afternoon.  I think I will practice some feathers on this one.

Lots of cooking and cookie baking this week.

Our Woman's Club has our annual dinner to thank our Town Employees on Wednesday.

The ladies of our church will have a Cookie Walk Friday evening and the men have set up the Nativity out front of the church.  There will be a live Nativity that evening also.  Our town has a wonderful light display which opens this week too!  Seems strange to have it before Thanksgiving but I guess it is because Thanksgiving is so late this year.

We have Table of Grace on Monday  - A couple in our church is bringing us fresh collards for the meal so we will get together on Saturday to cook them.  It will be a learning experience for me.

So quilting might be put on the back burner so to speak!

A Start

Flash back about a year - I finally have the Orca Bay Quilt from Bonnie Hunter's mystery  2011 on the machine.  Need to work on my lighting down there before winter sets in.

Using an allover floral  for the pattern.

Started another Arrow Star Quilt.  My first had blocks that were 16".  These are only 12".
Dreadful pictures but that is not my forte.

Finally Finished

This morning I finally finished the OrcaBay quilt top (added the red and black and white borders) that I started last November.  I think it looks like it should be called Wolfpack Bay as it looks like North Carolina State colors.

Haven't decided if I will try the Bonnie Hunter mystery this year - it is such a busy time of year - we'll see.

I layered 3 quilts this afternoon and started quilting one tonight.

Sewing Red Squares and Making Cookies

I think I just need to make 2 more squares and trim the group on the left and that will complete Step 4 of the Bonnie Hunter Mystery.  This being my first mystery, I have no idea how many weeks it will last.  Hope I can keep up to date during the holidays.  Perhaps we'll have a couple of weeks intermission? Check out all the details here!

Still have plenty of room in my plastic box.

Daniel, Emily and Hannah (Cookie Party Organizer)

We spent Sunday afternoon together making and decorating cookies for Shelly's open house at Face It on Thursday.  Hannah did a great job getting it organized.  She had lots of cookie dough ready for us to roll out, bake and decorate.  She just home from Drexel Friday evening.

We made 6 kinds of cookies.  I brought some sand tarts that I had made at home and Kathy is bring some cheese crackers that she made so Shelly will have a good assortment.

Shelly was in charge of packaging.

Fun Day - Sewing - Shopping

Yesterday was a fun day that Cathy, Connie and I had with Sally at her home in Goldsboro.  We sewed in the morning.  I worked on this disappearing nine patch that I started a couple of years ago.  I sewed about 12 blocks.

After lunch we visited a local quilt shop. Thistle Bee has a wonderful selection of Civil War fabrics and it didn't hurt anything that she was having a 40% off sale in one room.  We were there about 2 hours.

My Choices
We had just enough time to stop at Dairy Queen for a mini blizzard before heading home.

I had a little time in between putting the ornaments on the tree (it's been sitting here with lights on for about a week) and other stuff to make a few of the blocks for Step 4 of the Orca Bay Mystery Quilt.

The weekend is pretty full so this may be it for awhile.

Hope your weekend is fun and productive!
