En Provence Quilting

I finished piecing my 2016 en provence quilt ( Bonnie Hunter Mystery)  in May of last year.

 And I have finally started quilting it.

I've quilted three donation quilts  so time for a time for a large quilt!

And as usual the mystery quilt is big  - 87 by 87" 

That will be fun to bind - smile!

Mystery Quilt backing and Binding

I added the missing row to my mystery quilt and after many changes made a backing for it. 

 I used a set of batik blocks that I won at Capital Quilters Guid several years ago.  

They were pretty but the blocks varied quite a bit in size.  

I think the colors complement the top so it was a good way to use them up.

And I also sewed the binding down on this quilt that I quilted awhile back.

I have already put it on the bed.  It doesn't look as patriotic as I thought it would.

Another Quilt Top Finished?

I made backing and bindings for the H Quilt

And for the donation baby quilt.

Then with a little more free time to spare I decided to sew the final blocks of the BH mystery quilt together.  I laid it out on the carpet for a quick picture, folded it up with the intention of making a backing the next morning.

I found 2 or 3 fabrics that would work for the backing and while I was looking for binding fabric ..... I found this, which had slipped off the edge of the machine.  I hadn't even realized I was missing a row in the picture above.  

Oh how I hate to think about unsewing  that long seam with all those intersections. Rats!!!!

Mystery Quilt / Quilting Tree

I managed to get one block of the 16 needed for the BH Mystery made today.  

This may take longer than I expected. I can see that I could have made better choices of some of my fabrics.   Mystery Quilts are definitely not my forte.

I went down to my quilting room for the first time in a couple of months the other day.  The weather has been great and it would have been a great time to start on a quilt but I was getting ready to go to the beach so I just cleaned up a bit and left the tops to languish awhile longer.

I use the old, old coat tree from John's Mom to hold most of my quilts in waiting.
There is a small closet in the bedroom and I do have one or two in there.  But for the most part they go on the quilting tree.

 It's really sturdy. it has to be when I am so remiss about getting to the quilting of all these projects.

I store and cut my battings on the bed.  I love having these rolls as it seems like I don't end up with quite so many odds and ends of batting as I did when I used individual packages.

Don't know if I will get any time to quilt any this month.  Time will tell.

Christmas Lights - Mystery Quilt

Oh yes - of course - I started making blocks for the Bonnie Hunter mystery.  I did manage to make step 2 but I am way behind on step 1.  A friend gave me some of her extra four patches Tuesday so I only need about 100 more. Thanks Wanda!  

Yesterday afternoon I went to the movies with a friend.

We saw Allied which was really good.

On the way home we went by Piper Lights out on Fixit Shop Road.

It has been there for years and I have passed by it many times ( it's only about 5 miles from here) but never realized that they had so many lights out behind their place.  I never even knew they called Piper Lights.

They won the Great American Christmas Light Show this week!   WHO KNEW!!!

Well long story short we took the back roads home and checked it out - good job Piper family.

Last year a family in Clayton which is about 12 miles from here won - amazing.

May have to check them out too.  

John and I used to pack the kids in the car before Christmas to see the Christmas displays and lights. 

We sure never saw any like this but we enjoyed all the same. 

Sewing blocks

Sewed 10 more of the BH mystery blocks.  All the blocks are sewn - now to sew more rows.  

  

I also sewed more of these star blocks - I had planned to put a border on the ones that are already sewn together but I didn't have any fabric that I really liked with them.  So will add another row of blocks.
