Dotty Top Finished

Yesterday I sewed the blocks together and started making the border units.

With the border units sewn on the top measures 56 X 68 inches.  I would like it a little larger to give as a gift.  May try adding another border if I can find something I like - I don't like borders that are just tacked on to enlarge a quilt so this may be a problem.

Kathy, Hannah and Emily

For my weekend entertainment, I joined these gals in Morehead City for the Southeast Showdown Nationals Dance Competition.
Emily and Hannah were in several group dances and Emily was in a duet on Saturday.  They were there at 7AM and finished their routines about 3. Kathy was busy running back and forth helping with costume changes and makeup.

We went back in the evening and watched the solo competitions until 11PM.  Sunday the Showdown started at 10AM - Emily was in the opening number.  Their groups didn't make the showdown but the Pee Wee Troupe from there school won a first place and a second place award.

Hannah and Emily have plans to do a duet together next season.
We saw lots of amazing talented dancers and lots of fun!

Back to Dotty

Last week I decided to get my dotty fabrics out again and resume working on this quilt that I started back before Thanksgiving.  I had made three blocks when life came calling!

Now there are fourteen

Sunday and Monday, I cut out the centers and have started sewing them.  I have six more blocks ready to sew together and that will be it for the blocks.  Then I will think about the borders.  I won't use the sashing used in the pattern (that's why I made more blocks) but I do like the outer pieced border.
First I have to concentrate on getting to that point.

This will probably be my last sewing day for this week as we are going up to PA for Hannah's graduation from Drexel this weekend.

Chillin' out in chilly Oxford, NY

My sister, Barb, sent me this picture last week.  It was 3 weeks ago at her house in Oxford. I think  the high temperature was 53 that day.  She did have the heat on every day.  And there is a gas space heater, just beyond my feet, that heats the big front room very nicely after awhile.  She was making me a very special breakfast that day.

It will be 93 here today!

Emily and I after dance recital

Who else but a teen could look like this at 11:15 PM and dancing and changing costumes so many times that I lost count.

Little Forest Top Finished

I finished sewing the borders on this afternoon.  It is 61 x 72".  I really should rearrange my sewing space so that I can go back to a larger, more accessible area for my design wall.

I cut the rest of the red into binding strips.  I was going to use a small red and white stripe but it looked like it didn't belong.

I put together a couple more blocks.  Will add the centers soon as I don't like to do them all at once.

Tomorrow is Stiticher's Garden Class at Thistlebee Quilt Shop in Goldsboro and I still need to get a few more things together for it.  It is our final  class.  I think they may offer a class on setting the quilt together.
It's been fun making all the blocks using different techniques.

Sewing Today - One Dotty Block

Today C&S came over to sew.  We spent most of the morning catching up.  And after lunch I worked on my arc units for the blocks.
This evening I cut out the corner pieces for one block and sewed them together.  I was relieved after paper piecing all those units that the block turned out to be the correct size. The quilt in the pattern is 52 x 56".  I'm thinking of enlarging it as I want to give it as a gift.

Tonight I finished reading "The Little Friend" by Donna Tartt which I enjoyed so much.  Now I want to read her other 2 books but I think I will wait until after Christmas.

More Dotty

The dotty pattern has 3 different arc units.  I finished the 19 of this design.  Of course, this is the simplest one  with only 5 pieces per arc.  The others have 8 and 9 pieces.

Now I'll have to cut more lots more little pieces.

Apricot Almond Cookies
Toffee Bars

I finished my cookie baking for the time being.  I think I've  made 28 dozen since Thanksgiving.  Shelly picked up hers this morning.   I'll wait a few days before I make a few more for Christmas.
