Taking a Snow/ Sew Day

Yesterday was supposed to be a trip down to Wilmington to sew with S & C but Mother Nature had other plans so after some errands (YES I went to the grocery store too like all good North Carolinians do when they hear that word) I went down the little house just as the first raindrops started.

I carried some items to store in TLH until the church has a yard sale Tuesday afternoon.  And all of a sudden I was loading this quilt on the Crown Jewel! 1 quilted a couple of rows too.

I finished quilting the Little H Quilt.  And I took time to load another quilt.
By then the snow was covering the lawn and looked so beautiful and peaceful coming down.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

This was a surprise - last year's orchid has been sitting in the sink all winter and has new buds - very exciting for me as I have never had patience to wait for them. Trying not to over water - must remember 2 ice cubes per week.

Two little birds discussing the snow - 5PM

The Little House - 6PM

From the back porch  - the forsythia in the center was in full bloom  - we've had some very warm days this  February and lots of rain so many trees have blossomed out too.

Camellia under my kitchen window.

Well I'm just going to enjoy the beauty and let Mother Nature sort it out!

Amaryllis is just perfect.  I enjoy it everyday.

A Rare December Occurrence

Thursday - December 8
3 warm days and the pink Sasanqua is in full bloom!

Sunday December 9
Cloaked in a 5 inch blanket

Monday December 10
Hard to tell but after a couple of inches of rain yesterday afternoon,
we are getting a wintery mix - snows for a few minutes then sleety stuff!
So rare to even have snow in December but this is the first time I can remember since I've lived here to have frozen precipitation.
I'm ready for it to stop - even tho I love those postcard pictures of the snow.
I didn't even venture off the porch yesterday.

A nice cushion for the deck chair.

So pretty and puffy!

Not a lot of sewing going on around here - sharing my sewing room with my grand - dog Luther
and the rest of the house with Kathy and Jesse until their house is completed at the end of the month.
It's so nice having someone in the house to share in the Holiday Preparation and Fun.

Luther's favorite pose - Can I have some of whatever it is you're eating or fixing to eat?

Kathy and Jesse put together a Moravian Star that Kathy had given me years ago.

This is the Block of the month for December at Pine Tree.

Snow Day - Sew Day

We are experiencing a very rare prolonged cold spell here.  I don't recall the temperature being  in the teens for several nights in a row before.  And then to have the temps below freezing during the day and snow too just adds insult to injury!
I love the shadows on the snow at 2PM.

I was waiting for the serviceman from the gas company - my tankless water heater that hangs on the back of the house froze again on Wednesday morning.
(The guys working on my deck were nice enough to thaw it for me).
More insulation added inside and outside of the heater.
So I have hot water today - Saturday night will be the real test.

After getting that solved - I could concentrate on my sewing.  I love this top.  It is so much better looking than this picture.  The reds vary from block to block which is hard to see here.

It is too big to display the whole top on the carpet.
It is 90 by 90" but so much fun to make (except for sewing the blocks together)
thanks to my big stash of nine patches.

I also took my tree down yesterday while waiting for the serviceman.
I took a few pictures of some of my favorite ornaments   - some new this year.

And of course this guy has been on my tree for 56 years.

Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow------

This morning's snow wasn't enough to keep our Thursday sewing group home today. Four of us get together two Thursdays a month at Whistle Stop Quilt Shop in Cary. Connie W. moved her shop from Selma, NC to Cary in December. She has done a great job arranging the displays. The shop is very attractive and well stocked. We enjoy meeting in her classroom. It is lots of fun to sew, chat, visit with customers who wander back to the classroom, snack, have a little show and tell and check out the new fabrics in the shop.
The tree quilt was made by Connie H. I just love it! I know I need to make one of these.
