Winter Project Finished

Guess you would call it a fixation but I just couldn't seem to put this project aside.  So I finished the top  this evening.  I had to sew the last half of the last row with the Singer Featherweight as my Bernina started "acting up"!  Guess she needs to go to the Spa for some R&R.

I made a Peanut Butter Bar Cheesecake this afternoon.  Started at 3PM and put it in the fridge for the night at 8:30.  Just hope it tastes really good.  The recipe was in the May 2013 issue of Good Housekeeping.  Can't wait to take it out of the pan tomorrow!

More Lake Time - New Project

I went to the lake Sunday evening with the idea that I would get up early Monday and mow the lawn.
After getting up rather late (9:30AM) and  having a nice brunch with the puzzles from the Sunday paper, I was finally ready to tackle the lawn.

When I went to the shed, the key for the mower was missing - Al had forgotten and put it in his pocket and it was in Wendell - what to do?

Got out my trusty Hot Dog Bait and went cat fishing.  That lasted about an hour - too hot - although it was so pretty with the blue skies.

Back inside for me where it was nice and cool.  I cut some strips for a quilt that I have been wanting to try since I first saw it on the Nifty Quilts Blog last year. Kind of a Spider Web design.

I think this may be a winter project. It took me lots of time just to sew all this  .Only 1 block is completely sewn.  I really like it as it  but it looks like it will be a challenge for me.

My neighbor has this on her lawn. A Sea-Doo Planter - who knew.

What I did at the lake..............

I sewed this border on the Spiderweb II quilt top.  Not at all the fabric I had planned to use.  From a 1.25 yard piece (partially used) -  I had 4 pieces 3" x 4" and a strip 1.5 x 8" leftover.  It looks better in real life especially considering my photography skills.

I made a journal cover! I used the directions from the Exuberant Color blog.   I had jotted them down in one of my 'someday' notebooks  back before Christmas.  Her directions were very clear and easy to understand.  I used some of the leftover fabrics from the spiderweb quilt.  I sewed and quilted it with a Singer Featherweight which is what I sew on at the lake.  Very basic but I'm happy with my first attempt - Thank you Wanda from Exuberant Color!

Another Spiderweb

This spiderweb pattern is found on http://www.maryquilts.com/.  The instructions are clear and you can easily download the patterns.

I haven't decided what color I want to use for the sashing and borders.  I used batik scraps.  With these 12 blocks the quilt will be about 55 x 68".

Perhaps I'll  look around for sashing and border fabric while I'm at Ladybug Cottage today for the second session of quilting class.

Happy Weekend!  After tomorrow, no commitments until Woman's Club on Wednesday.  I feel the lake beckoning!

Quilt # 193 - from the Archives

No quilting going on around here this week. We have rearranged the sewing room and that leads to sorting, discovering forgotten projects, tossing a few things, etc.

This is a 64 x 80" spider web quilt made with a variety of reds as the background. I completed it in March 2005. It lives with John's cousin Doris and her husband Carl at their cabin in St. Regis Falls, NY. They have spent their summers there for almost 50 years. And we have enjoyed lots of good times with them there
