Archive Quilt # 192 - Mystery Stars II

We have a vaulted ceiling on one side of the main room at the lake and this quilt hangs in the living room end.  It is 63 x 75".  It is a duplicate of the previous quilt that hung there.  It was made in blues, purples and black.  I gave it to our church (WUMW group) to be used as a fundraiser in 2002.  It now belongs to friends so I see it once in awhile at their house.

It's hard to get a good picture as the porch shades the windows and the other windows are on the north side .
I think the backing is an old Daisy kingdom print. - Wish I had more of it!

While at the lake this past week, I made 5 more blocks of this pattern. I posted about it here.  I think I have 17 blocks done,  I had hundreds of four patch units made but have to make the star point and dark four patch units as I go along. I hope to make this quilt a little larger than this one.

Quilt # 239 - From the Archives

Exquisite Star
The blocks are 9" and it is 72 x 81".  Looking back at this picture, I notice that I have one block turned wrong (maybe I planned it that way - Not!).

Pieced back
I didn't have enough of the cowboy fabric so I made some 12" blocks for the back to make it work.

I gave this to grandson Benjamin on his 6th birthday.  He recently turned 9.  He entered this world a preemie at 1#12 ounces.  God was shining down on him.  While not quite as big as most 9 year olds, he is healthy and his passion at the moment is baseball and taekwondo.

Quilt # 135 from The Archives

Very Wild Rose

I appliqued the blocks for this quilt in 2000 while staying with John in the hospital.  I set the blocks together and quilted it in 2001.  It is a very easy applique pattern that I got from a friend, Bonnie P., at Three Rivers Quilt Guild when we lived near Albemarle, NC.

It is quilted with Sulky polyester clear thread which was what I used a lot at that time.  It is 84" square.
I have been using it as a tablecloth on a round table for a couple of years.

Quilt # 68 - From the Archives

Bluebird and Baskets - 41 x 41" - Completed 1996
  1. Some of the flowers in the baskets are three dimensional.  I had just learned to make them and actually taught a class to some friends in the New London area using the baskets and flowers.  The bluebird pattern came from Quiltmaker magazine, I think.
  2. This quilt was awarded a red ribbons at the Salisbury-Rowan Quit Show in 1996 and the NC State Fair in 1998.

Quilt # 104 - from the Archives

Glad Tidings - a quilt I made in 1999.  It is my own design using angels from various sources.  I was drawn to the folk art style after seeing some work by a friend, Judee L. from Richfield, NC.  It is machine appliqued and hand quilted. It is 50 x 60". It was awarded a red ribbon at the NC State Fair in 1999 and earned a white ribbon at the Capitol Quilters Guild show in 2002.  One of the comments on the judges sheet was that it could use more quilting in the borders.

I was surprised that no one commented at a family party today that I still had my "Christmas time" quilt up.
Tomorrow is a free day so I hope to get some sewing done.
I did sew a little on Saturday up at the lake.  Mostly we fished, read and enjoyed the warm sunny days.  John caught some nice crappie and bream.  I read 2 books and caught 2 blue catfish.  Life is good.

Quilt #141 - From the Archives

Millennium Compass - 81 x 92"

I began drafting and paper piecing the blocks from instructions in an article in Quilter's Newsletter Magazine during the big snow storm (20") in North Carolina in January 2000.

In Feb. my husband had a day surgery that turned into a nightmare. We spent most of that year in and out of the hospital and ended up having 17 surgeries. He was released from visiting nurse care on December 23rd. He still suffers the consequences without complaint and we thank God that he can do as well as he does.

Back to the quilt - I drew the borders and pieced them in 2001 and quilted it in 2002. It won a blue ribbon at the Capital Quilter's Guild Show in 2002 and a pink ribbon at the NC State Fair in October 2002.
