What I Did Today

A friend showed a cute table runner at our Bee meeting Saturday.   I have had the pattern for a few years.  Seeing hers gave me the nudge I needed to start one for myself.  I couldn't decide on the colors so I made this one first.

I had extra pumpkins so I used batiks for the second one.  I have to take off the left border as I sewed it on backwards and it has a seam on the front.

Here they are side by side. Tomorrow I will stitch around the face features and the trunks. The pattern is called The Three Amigos and was written by Susan Fuquay.

String Squares

Saturday was the Undercover Bee meeting.  I finished making the squares for this quilt.  I sewed it together yesterday afternoon.  It was 57 x 76" which to me seems to be an odd size.
I made some borders to try out.  If I add borders on three sides it will be 71 x 81 or on all sides 71 x 86".  The side borders are 7" and the top/bottom are 5".
I can think about it today as we have Table of Grace at church.  We're making Baked Spaghetti, green beans, fruit salad and pound cake with ice cream for dessert.
I may go to the Monday session of Disciple Class as long as I'm already at church.  That way we can go up to the lake and not have to worry about getting back for the Wed. evening session.
Have a good day!

Another Distraction

Today I found a set of blocks made in 1996 while I was a member of the Three Rivers Quilt Guild in Albemarle, NC. We had a voluntary block swap.  Each participant made 1 house and 2 trees for each other.

I think the organizer, Pauline O., found the pattern in Quiltmaker magazine.  Anyway, I made mine into 2 quilts (one 42 x 48" and one 42 x 42" after borders) that I will donate to our Quilts on Wheels group at Capital Quilters Guild this year. My camera is having issues - maybe it needs a new card- so I don't have a picture of the other one.

I should do this with more of the  block sets that have been languishing around in drawers for years!
Well the sewing room is still a mess (corner of table in pic) although I did clean out one corner this evening.

Side Tracked

This afternoon I decided to clean up a little in the sewing room. That lasted about 10 minutes!  Found some pieces from a workshop I took several years ago with Lorraine Torrence.  I made them into journal covers.  Now that was fun!  And since my books were all the same size, I only had to figure out the measurements once.

Sewing Time

Thursday was sewing day with Cathy, Connie and Sally.  I was late as usual (had a good excuse for a change) but I did finish a few nine patch blocks.  Last week, while looking for something else, I found these nine patch blocks that I started almost 2 years ago. Unfortunately, I didn't keep a copy  of the idea I had for them.        Wow  - they don't look so good in this picture.  I had used mostly creams as the lights.
This group has more white base backgrounds.  I think I now have 42 blocks done.  I think I will make the interior of the quilt 63 x 81".  So lots more nine patches ahead!

When I saw this quilt on the cover of a recent magazine, I just loved it.  I love all things stringy and scrappy.  Soo ------- of course I had to start something else.  It is so addictive to just sew all those little strips together.   Then chop, chop, chop and you have these cute little squares.   Well, we'll see where this leads.

I had lots of time to sew as my car was at the dealership all day.  Coming home from vacation, we were rear ended.  We had the repairs done at a collision place but still had a code that needed to be removed by the Toyota Shop.  We had just received a recall notice for it too. In addition they found  a couple other things that needed attention. There goes my allowance for a few weeks.  But I'm glad to have my car back in A1 condition.

Right now I'm waiting for a Chocolate Pound Cake to finish baking.  Tomorrow we have lots going on at church. - Chicken Barbecue Dinner, Antique Car Show, Kids Games, Yard Sale, Ladies Boutique, Auction, and Frozen Casserole and Bake Goods Sale, etc. -   You can find me at the bake sale room.

Have a good weekend!
